EBRD to assist Armenian capital to become “Green city”

An action plan called “Green City”, developed in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has been submitted to the Yerevan Municipality’s approval. Yerevan deputy mayor Vahe Nikoyan was quoted as saying in a municipality’s press release that the implementation of the “Green City” will be of great importance in terms of urban development.

The head of the Green City team, Andrea Chirlichova, who is also a representative of Ernst & Young, chosen to consult the municipality during the implementation of the program, noted that the main goal of the Green City is to stimulate the economic and social growth of the capital through the focus on environmental challenges.

As part of the program, the state of the air, water resources, land, biodiversity and ecosystem of Yerevan, as well as factors that have negative impact on it, were assessed. The plan of actions went through a strategic environmental assessment and public hearings. The “Green City” program will be implemented with the assistance of local partners and international organizations, as well as in cooperation with financial institutions.
