The European Union will allocate over €1 million for implementing the second project of the Twinning program in Belarus. The project is designed to strengthen the agency’s capacity for geospatial data management and interoperability, BelTA learned from Chairman of the State Property Committee of Belarus Andrei Gayev before the project’s official presentation on 17 December.
The project will be implemented by the committee’s National Cadastral Agency in association with colleagues from Netherlands and Spain. “It is designed to run for two years and provides for the appropriation of €1.05 million,” the official said.

According to the Spanish supervisor of the project Fernando Serrano, the Belarusian side has accumulated a considerable amount of data.
“This data is somehow disseminated and delivered to consumers. Thanks to studying the experience of the INSPIRE directive the data could be disseminated using more effective standard practices and tools,” Fernando Serrano believes. In his words, thanks to this project the National Cadastral Agency (NCA) and Belarusian state-run enterprises as a whole could establish more effective data sharing from the point of view of logistics and finance, for instance, data sharing between the address registry and the population registry.
Head of the Political, Economic, Press and Information Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Belarus Evelina Schulz believes that the project’s implementation will enhance the NCA’s potential for performing its key functions. “The successful implementation of this project will contribute to deeper adoption of digital technologies in the country, to the facilitation and acceleration of deals between commercial entities, thus contributing to further economic growth and higher living standards of the nation,” Evelina Schulz is convinced.
