EU to provide €40 million for economic development of Armenian regions

The European Union will provide 30 million euros to promote the economic development of the three regions in the north of Armenia, Piotr Switalski, the head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, said on Tuesday.

He said the money will be used to support the development of tourism, agriculture, and crafts. Switalski said also that more than 10 million euros will also be provided to support the economic development of other regions.

He said a pilot regional development project, implemented in Dilijan by the EU Delegation to Armenia together with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development and the IDeA Foundation, showed the success of the chosen path.

“The Dilijan project is ahead of other projects in many respects. I believe that the involvement of the IDeA Foundation was an excellent move, and thanks to it we opened an excellent information and tourist center in Dilijan, ”he said.

The pilot project created 50 stable jobs in Dilijan and adjacent communities, about 340 citizens directly benefited from the project and more than 100 enterprises received support in the development of tourism, hotel business, and crafts.
