Director of Research
Philip Shishkin is the director of research at StrategEast. He focuses on geopolitics of frontier technologies, export controls and the global competition between the U.S. and China to define and dominate the new digital age.
Philip spent over a decade as a staff reporter and bureau chief at The Wall Street Journal. He covered European antitrust and business regulation in Brussels; ran the newspaper’s Baghdad bureau during the height of Iraq’s sectarian war; wrote an investigative book about commercial and political machinations in Central Asia; covered white-collar crime in Washington; and conducted other reporting assignments in the U.S., China, Afghanistan, Turkey, Ukraine and Russia. He’s also a principal at Frontier Research Group, which provides due-diligence and advisory services.
