Germany suggests holding Armenian-German intergovernmental commission session in Berlin

Armenia’s Ministry of Economy said today that the government of Germany suggested that the next meeting of the Armenian-German intergovernmental commission on financial and technical cooperation be held on July 21-22 in Berlin. The proposal was conveyed by Germany’s Vice-Ambassador to Armenia Klaus Wendelberg to Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Economy Varos Simonyan.

The Vice Ambassador said representatives of the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany will arrive in Armenia in the near future to discuss the details of the meeting.

Wendelberg said also that the German government was ready to continue assisting the Armenian government in the implementation of reforms, especially economic reforms with particular attention on the development of the “green economy,” SMEs and tourism.

Simonyan, who is the Armenian co-chair of the commission, accepted the proposal of the German side. He assured that the Armenian government will prepare a package of issues for discussion before the arrival of German colleagues. The deputy minister thanked the German government for many years of active assistance to Armenia.

KfW Bank’s senior coordinator in Armenia Bella Andriasyan briefly presented the bank’s activities in the country, emphasizing its involvement in agricultural programs.

Anne Kepman, Program Manager of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Armenia, highlighted what has been done and is being done with the bank’s assistance in such areas as SMEs and tourism.
