USAID to provide grants for baking agrarian sector in Moldova

The Moldova High Value Agriculture Activity Project (HVAA) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched an appeal for financing through grant for backing education opportunities with regional and national coverage in the apiarian sector. The project will organize an informative workshop on the enforcement procedure on 19 December and applicants can confirm their participation till 18 December.

According to donors, the goal of the financing is “to disseminate information on the best technological and managerial approaches in the apiarian sector by an as large as possible number of bee-keepers and other entities involved in the honey’s value chain.”

Local organizations, sector associations, associations made up of members (such as cooperatives or groups of producers), providers of services in the business field, providers of services in consultancy, education institutions and non-governmental organizations, proposals of projects for activities which would provide education opportunities regionally or nationally for bee-keepers and other entities involved in honey’s value chain can ask for grants within this appeal. As far as possible, the activities suggested should target an as wide as possible audience, regionally or nationally.

The HVAA project anticipates the providing of about 1.35 million lei within this financing appeal. Decision-makers estimate that the sum provided for each grant will vary between 350,000 and 900,000 lei, but will depend on grant activities proposed and the final negotiation. The beneficiary’s contribution must account for at least 10 per cent from the activity’s overall value and can be in kind or in cash.

Data by the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) shows that 7,126 bee gardens are presently officially recorded in Moldova, in which more than 236,000 bee families are maintained, which represents, on average, 33 bee families per one bee garden. Or, the advanced apiculture implies the maintaining of at least 150 bee families per one bee-keeper.
