Uzbek-US trade turnover increases by 1.7 times, reaches $453.8 million

On 23 February, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan jointly with the US-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce held a round table in format of a videoconference with participation of entrepreneurs from all regions of the country.

The goal is to discuss prospects for establishing mutually beneficial cooperation between WCC International and Uzbekistan’s manufacturing companies, including in the sphere of promotion of Uzbek products in the American market.

Participants discussed issues such as bilateral trade between the United States and Uzbekistan, strategy of entering the United States market, market research methods and clients, international marketing: localization and adaptation of the product, adjustment of prices for local market demand, global e-commerce for entrepreneurs in Uzbekistan.

Over 20 companies engaged in production of food, polypropylene pipes, pharmaceutical products, agricultural products, wholesale trade, electronic commerce took part in the videoconference.

During the videoconference, the high efficiency and effectiveness of the Uzbek-American business forum, held within the framework of the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev to New York in September 2017, was highlighted. Within the event, the business circles of twp states signed contracts for US$2.6 billion.

It should be noted that in order to enhance cooperation in the sphere of trade in 2017, the trading house of Uztrade was opened in New York with a constantly operating show-room. This year, the export of fresh melons from Uzbekistan to the United States was also regulated, and export contracts were also concluded for the supply of ready-made textile, dried fruit and vegetable products to the US market for US$5.1 million.

At present, the main positions of Uzbekistan’s exports to the United States are chemical products, fresh and dried fruit and vegetables, various spices, handicrafts and engineering products. As a result of 2016, the volume of trade turnover between our countries increased by 1.7 times and reached US$453.8 million.
