Belgian Greenyard, Uzbekistan mull coop

On December 24, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belgium Dilyor Khakimov, within the framework of activities on attracting one of the leading global players in the market of fresh fruit and vegetable products to Uzbekistan market, held a meeting and negotiations at Greenyard headquarters with the group’s CEO Hein Deprez.
This Belgian group of companies processes and supplies both fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as ready-to-eat foods and frozen products with an annual turnover of more than 4.2 billion euros. The company operates in 25 countries of the world, supplying more than 2 million tons of fresh vegetables and fruits, 800 thousand tons of frozen products and semi-finished products, and sells these products in 19 of the 20 European retailer networks.
Hein Deprez emphasized that he watches with interest the fundamental reforms and structural changes implemented in the agricultural sphere of Uzbekistan at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev over the past two years, including on introduction of market relations, development of processing and export infrastructure, resolution of many farmers’ problems.
At the request of the CEO, he was provided with information on the latest changes and decisions of Uzbekistan’s Government in the agricultural sector. Explained in detail about the conditions created for foreign companies and partners for doing business, investing in Uzbekistan, as well as the export potential of agricultural products.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the parties highly assessed the existing business opportunities in the coming 2019 and agreed to organize the visit of the CEO Hein Deprez to Uzbekistan taking into account the importance of establishing mutually beneficial cooperation as soon as possible.
In particular, following the negotiations, a principal agreement was reached on his visit to the country from December 26 to 29, 2018. During the trip, meetings and negotiations are scheduled with the leadership of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, ministries for foreign trade and agriculture, as well as a number of other agencies of Uzbekistan.
