EBRD ready to implement at least 15 projects in Uzbekistan in 2018

A delegation of Uzbekistan led by the EBRD Governor from Uzbekistan, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate Oliyo Majlis Sadyk Safaev visited the headquarters of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London.

The delegation of Uzbekistan held a meeting with the President of the EBRD Suma Chakrabarti. The head of the bank highly appreciated the pace of political and economic reforms, implemented in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The head of the bank highlighted constructive proactive policy of Tashkent towards the countries of Central Asia.

Chakrabarti said that the EBRD is ready to provide all possible support to Uzbekistan in achieving its goals, not only by providing funds for implementing priority projects and attracting foreign investment, but also facilitating the process of effective implementation of economic reforms.

According to him, the range of interaction between the parties is very wide: support of small and medium-sized businesses, development of public-private partnerships, tourism, energy saving and renewable energy sources, transport and communal infrastructure, promotion of the capital market and the banking and financial sector.

The EBRD President noted with satisfaction that for almost a record time the parties managed to prepare and sign several agreements for a total of over US$186 million. According to him, the bank plans to implement at least 15 projects in various areas in 2018.

The Uzbek delegation took part in the EBRD Board of Directors meeting. The president of the bank pointed out that Uzbekistan, with which effective cooperation was renewed, is an important direction for the bank’s activities.

In the speech, the Uzbek delegation detailed information was provided on the transformations taking place in the country. It was stressed that this process is stable and irreversible.

It should be noted that taking into account the unique cultural and historical heritage of Uzbekistan, our country was chosen as a pilot project for integrated development of tourism in Khorezm with subsequent use of this model for other regions of the country.

As partners in the project, the bank intends to attract leading organizations, companies and research institutes with extensive experience in implementing large-scale projects in the field of tourism.

The EBRD said that Uzbekistan participated for the first time at such a high level meeting of the EBRD Board of Directors, which shows not only a full-fledged restoration of cooperation, but also a mutual interest in building up cooperation for implementation of the tasks of the Strategy of Action.
