EBRD ready to invest in Armenia’s economic programs

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is ready to implement investment programs in the most important to the Armenian government areas and to continue contributing to the country’s economic development, the EBRD Vice President of Banking Alain Pilloux said Thursday as he met with Karen Karapetyan, Armenian prime minister. According to the Armenian government’s press office, the parties discussed current programs and outlined future prospects for cooperation.

Karapetyan singled out information technology, energy, agriculture, light industry, tourism, jewelry industry and pharmaceutics as promising areas for cooperation. Expressing appreciation of the EBRD 25-year cooperation with Armenia, he said that the bank is one of the country’s key partners. The premier thanked the EBRD for the assistance provided by the bank to Armenia in development of the concept of partnership between the country’s public and private sectors as well as in elaboration of a legislative package. He also expressed gratitude to the bank for its technical support.

Alain Pilloux, in return, stressed the importance of the cooperation for business sector and relationship between public and private sectors.

The package of EBRD-Armenia cooperation includes 158 programs totaling €1.1 billion.
