FDI in Kazakhstan for the nine months of 2017 reach $15.8 billion

On February 26 in Almaty, at the European Business Association of Kazakhstan (EUROBAK), the Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Ministry for Investment and Development of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Khairov, and heads of the Association member companies and representatives of the diplomatic community held a roundtable meeting to discuss the most pressing issues of the investment climate, changes and trends in the investment policy of Kazakhstan and prospects of cooperation.

Foreign investors noted the relevance and expediency of holding such meetings, demonstrating the readiness of the state to conduct an open and constructive dialogue with business, which, in turn, positively affects the investment image of Kazakhstan.

Speaking at the meeting, Khairov noted that the attraction of foreign investments is one of the key tasks set by Kazakhstan’s Head of State.

“The volume of gross inflow of FDI for the nine months of 2017 was $15.8 billion, which is 5.3% more than in the same period in 2016. The greatest increase in gross inflow of FDI is observed in such sectors as mining, trade, manufacturing, and transport,” Khairov emphasized.

According to Khairov, Kazakhstan today is confidently ranked 36th among 190 countries in the World Bank’s Doing Business Ranking. The position on all ten indicators of the rating has been significantly improved: the first place by the indicator “Protection of minority investors,” the sixth place by the indicator “Enforcement of contracts”.

The event was a continuation of traditional meetings with foreign investors and the diplomatic community. The Kazakh side once again confirmed its readiness for an open dialogue on further improvement of the investment climate and rendering of all possible assistance in resolving pressing issues of foreign business in the country.

The European Business Association of Kazakhstan is a non-profit organization established in 1999 at the initiative of European companies and the Delegation of the European Union in Kazakhstan. EUROBAK unites more than 140 world-famous international, European and Kazakh companies, diplomatic missions from Europe and other countries.

The Association plays an important role in promoting and establishing a dialogue between Kazakhstan and Europe in business and public spheres, as well as providing a platform for constructive dialogue between business and the state.
