German Kaufland plans to invest over €300 million, create 2,000 jobs in Moldova

The investments of over €300 million and creation of almost 2,000 jobs. These are the plans of Kaufland company for Moldova. Today, the company has organised the Richtfest event – a German holiday, marking an important milestone in the construction of the first store in Moldova. Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, who noted that best about the government’s efforts to improve the business environment speak the facts and figures, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

“The event of today proves that investors coming to Moldova feel free to act and feel confident about the investments they make in this country,” said Pavel Filip.

The employees of this shop will have a minimum salary of MDL 7,500, at the same time 50 per cent of the production will be of native origin. “In these stores there will be more room for domestic products, which means that the Moldovan food industry will have more space here at home. Last but not least, this healthy competition will provide our citizens with better quality products and, why not, at a more affordable price,” said PM.

The PM also referred to the reforms launched by the Executive to create an attractive business environment: reducing the bodies with control functions and number of permissive acts, tax reform and amending the Labour Code (CM). “And we are building a foundation for the economic development of this country. We put this strong ground and we are sure that soon, we will also witness a national holiday – also a Richtfest. Let us also get the roof of this construction that we all started in this country,” said Pavel Filip.

Ambassador of Germany to Chisinau, Angela Ganninger, has said that the presence of PM Pavel Filip demonstrates the government’s interest in attracting investors to the national economy: “We appreciate that the Executive has done everything possible to facilitate investments in this country. We are invested into Moldova because we have found here several possibilities to expand our business.”

In 2018, Kaufland started the construction of the first three shops in Chisinau – afterwards the network will be expanded to 20 stores across Moldova and its own logistics centre.
