Moldova to connect its gas pipeline to the Romanian

The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure (MIE) has issued a certificate to design natural gas pipeline in the direction of Ungheni – Chisinau to the state owned company Vestmoldtransgaz.  The document certifies the elaboration of the project documentation for the public utility works on the territory of Ungheni, Nisporeni, Calarasi, Straseni and Chisinau districts. The abovementioned pipeline represents the second phase of the implementation of the project “Interconnection pipeline of the natural gas transportation system in Romania with the gas infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova”, which is to be completed in 2019. The first part of the project was the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline, commissioned in 2014. This 43 km long pipeline cost 26.5 million euros, of which about 80% were paid by the Romania and the EU.

According to the Moldovan Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, the European Union, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) provided 92 million euros.
