StrategEast presented the Westernization Index 2020 for EU policy makers in Brussels

StrategEast founder and president Anatoly Motkin has presented the newly released Westernization Index 2020 at the Center for European Policy Studies, a leading independent think tank on European policy in Brussels.

The presentation was followed by a discussion hosted by Steven Blockmans, Senior Research Fellow and Head of Foreign Policy and of Institutions Unit at CEPS with participation of Khatuna Burkadze
Advisor on Strategic Communications and Researcher, Geocase.

The event gathered over 100 participants, including high-profile EU officials and academia.

The StrategEast Westernization Index 2020 assesses the processes of adherence to the Western values in post-Soviet countries outside of Russia across five dimensions – political, legal, economic, cultural, and lifestyle. The second edition of this Index, released two years after the first one, retains its unique features:

• it is the only report to analyze the 14 countries of the Post-Soviet, Non-Russian region (PSNR) region as a whole;
• it measures each country’s wholesale integration into the Western world across many sectors;
• it is prepared for the West by experts from the region.
The second edition shows trends in political, economic, and legal Westernization, and by extension, the effectiveness of efforts by Western institutions operating in the region.

The Index is intended as a tool for public institutions in the post-Soviet region and in the West – including the European Union, to inform their policy-making processes.
