The World Bank to help Uzbekistan in introducing digital economy and e-government

Ministry for Information Technologies and Communications of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with representatives of the World Bank led by Oleg Petrov, senior ICT projects coordinator at the World Bank headquarters. During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for joint implementation of projects in the fields of digital economy and e-government, the press service of the Uzbek Ministry said.

In particular, the parties discussed prospects for Uzbekistan’s participation in the regional project Digital CASA, which is aimed at creating a cross-border telecommunications network. The network will connect the countries of Central and South Asia into a single digital hub. It is expected that this project will improve access to the Internet for landlocked countries, as well as develop their transit potential.

The sides also discussed development of software products in newly created Mirzo Ulugbek Innovation Center, training of highly qualified IT specialists, development of the postal industry.

The parties agreed to continue consultations to study prospective projects of the digital economy and e-government based on the priorities of development of Uzbekistan with maximum use of the World Bank’s potential.
