Ukraine enters top 20 Europe’s best gas hubs

Ukraine has for the first time entered top 20 Europe’s best gas hubs, according to the ranking by the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET), the press service of the National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine reports. Ukraine took 18th position in the ranking.

EFET included Ukraine in the annual review of gas hubs for the first time. Ukraine scored 3.5 points, going after such liquid hubs as NBP, TTF, NCG but leaving behind Bulgaria and Romania, which started to liberalize their gas markets much earlier than Ukraine.

“To improve its standing in the EFET rating, Ukraine should set tariffs for the entry-exit points of GTS, introduce daily balance settlement and start using short-term standardized products on the trading platform within daily balancing,” Naftogaz press service noted.

The European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET) was founded to facilitate the work of the European wholesale energy markets and involve traders in the decision-making process. EFET unites about 100 electricity and gas traders from 27 European countries.
