Ukraine, EU intensify cooperation on adaptation of Ukrainian legislation in field of SPS measures

Representatives of the competent authorities of Ukraine and the European Union discussed the current state of implementation of EU laws in the field of sanitary and phytosanitary measures in Ukrainian legislation in accordance with the Association Agreement.

“On February 20, a meeting was held between representatives of the Food Safety Directorate at the Ukrainian Economic Development Ministry, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, and representatives of the EU project “Improvement of Food Safety Control System in Ukraine” and the EU Delegation to Ukraine,” the press service of the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine reported.

The European side was informed that the goal of the Program of Activities of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “7.2. Ukrainian consumers receive safe goods and services” was in line with the implementation priorities of the comprehensive strategy regarding sanitary and phytosanitary measures of the Association Agreement.

Based on the results of the meeting, the parties updated their joint work plan and agreed to strengthen expert cooperation on adapting Ukrainian legislation as part of the comprehensive implementation strategy for Chapter IV of the Association Agreement (in the field of sanitary and phytosanitary measures).
