Ukraine ranks 10th in Worldsteel rating

Ukraine in January 2018 reduced steel production by 0.1% compared to the same period in 2017, but increased by 1.9%, to 2.1 million tonnes, from December 2017, ranking tenth in the rating of 64 countries, the world’s major producers of this product, compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).

In January the growth of steel smelting was recorded in the majority of the first ten countries from January 2017, except for China, the United States, Russia, and Ukraine.

The top ten countries producing steel in January are as follows: China (67 million tonnes, a fall of 0.9%), Japan (9.030 million tonnes, an increase of 0.3%), India (9.028 million tonnes, an increase of 2.5%), the United States (6.822 million tonnes, a fall of 2.2%), South Korea (6.125 million tonnes, an increase of 2.7%), Russia (5.7 million tonnes, a fall of 3.9%), Germany (3.7 million tonnes, an increase of 1.5%), Turkey (3.174 million tonnes, an increase of 7.6%), Brazil (2.866 million tonnes, an increase of 1.3%), and Ukraine (2.1 million tonnes, a drop of 0.1%).

They are followed by Italy (2.018 million tonnes, an increase of 5.3%), Iran (1.980 million tonnes, an increase of 25.9%), and Taiwan (1.960 million tonnes, an increase of 3.8%).

Overall, 64 countries produced 139.439 million tonnes of steel in January 2018, which is 0.8% more than in January 2017.
