Uzbekistan, UK discuss issues of investment cooperation

On 1 May 2019, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the UK organized the Manchester-Karshi-Namangan-Tashkent-London online video conference with the participation of representatives of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, khokimiyats of Kashkadarya and Namangan regions, as well as local entrepreneurs.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the investment opportunities of two regions of Uzbekistan in various sectors of the economy were presented. Particular emphasis was placed on the establishment and development of investment cooperation and cooperation ties between entrepreneurs of the regions of the two countries.

Susana Cordoba, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, reported that the number of members of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is over 4,500 small, medium and large businesses, representing all sectors of the economy. In this context, the large potential of cooperation with the business communities of Kashkadarya and Namangan regions was highlighted.

Representatives of the CCI of Uzbekistan, noting the willingness to establish long-term cooperation with the business community of Greater Manchester, offered to organize a business mission as part of British entrepreneurs in Kashkadarya and Namangan regions in order to familiarize themselves with the potential and specific investment projects proposed for implementation in the regions.

Issues of participation of British companies in joint projects in the areas of production of radiator, vodka, paint and varnish products, construction of a technology park, shopping and entertainment complex and other sectors, creation of logistic centers for the storage and transportation of agricultural products were discussed with entrepreneurs of Kashkadarya region.

Representatives of Namangan region provided detailed information on the region’s ability to export finished textile products of high quality to the British market. Separately, interest was shown in the participation of the British side in investment projects in such areas as heavy industry, the construction of greenhouse facilities, and the development of agroclusters.

Representatives of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce received with great interest information about investment opportunities and voiced proposals to jointly organize a series of events in the UK and Uzbekistan in 2019-2020, aimed at enhancing investment and trade and economic interaction between the regions of the two countries.

The participants of the online conference were also informed about the measures being taken in Uzbekistan to increase the effectiveness of activities to attract foreign direct investment in the economy of the republic. In particular, the details of the recent resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to further improve the mechanisms for attracting foreign direct investment in the country’s economy, which are designed to improve coordination of government and economic management, local executive authorities in attracting and mastering foreign investment, are explained.
